Slax

Install Programs

Additional programs can be added to Slax by downloading modules, including dependencies, and pasting them to Slax.

Be aware, modules are created by many different people, and some don't work. Try different ones, and see what you find. If you add one which does not work, you can delete it.

If you have not set up your user name and password, do that first. Some programs may not be on the menu while logged in as root, and you may think they don't work.

Download Modules

Go to http://www.slax.org/modules.php, decide which modules you want, and download them, as well as any dependencies.

Add Modules

While running Slax, open the root file manager. You can do this while logged in with your user name. It is in the menu under "System" -> "More Applications" -> "File Manager - Super User Mode." Another option is to log in as root and open the file manager.

Copy and paste the modules to "/mnt/(partition)/slax/modules/."

Turn the computer off, and restart for the programs to be loaded.

Optional Modules

Be aware, Slax runs from RAM, so if you add a large number of modules to "/slax/modules/" which you do not use, your computer may run slower (or not work at all), particularly if it does not have a lot of RAM.

If you have modules you won't use often, put them in the "/slax/optional/" directory. They will not be loaded unless you activate them.

To activate an optional module while Slax is running, open the file manager, go to the module and click on it.

Remove Modules

To remove modules, open the root file manager. Go to the directory where you pasted them, and delete any modules you don't want.

When you turn the computer off and restart, those programs will be gone.
